PURPOSE: To obtain a compound useful as an intermediate for dye and intermediate for the other organic synthesis in high selectivity and high yield by reacting an aromatic amine compound with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a metallosilicate.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic amine expressed by formula I (R1 to R5 are H, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, nitrile or alkoxycarbonyl) is reacted with hydrogen peroxide using a metallosilicate as a catalyst in a solvent such as methanol at 20-150°C to provide the aimed compound expressed by formula II. Hydrogen peroxide is used at a molar ratio of 0.05-3.0 based on the compound expressed by formula I and the above-mentioned catalyst is used at an amount of 0.01-30 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. compound expressed by formula I.
