To industrially advantageously obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate of an agricultural and horticultural insecticide in a high yield by reacting a specific compound with a cyclopropylmethyl iodide in a cyclic aprotic polar solvent in the presence of a base.
This benzamidoxime compound is expressed by formula II (e.g. N'-cyclopropylmethyloxy-2,3-difluoro-6-trifluoromethyl benzamidine) and is obtained by reacting a compound of formula I {X1 and X5 are each a 1-6C (halo)alkyl or a halogen; X2-X4 are each H, a 1-6C (halo)alkyl, a halogen, nitro, cyano or the like) (e.g. 2,3-difluoro-6-trifluoromethyl benzamidoxime) with cyclopropylmethyl iodide in a cyclic aprotic polar solvent (preferably N-methyl-2- pyrrolidone or 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone) in the presence of a base (e.g. an aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide).
