Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce the subject porcelain without sticking of an atmospheric holding material onto a material to be burned by holding the material to be burned in an alkaline atmosphere.

CONSTITUTION: In a method for burning a compact consisting essentially of β-alumina-based powder in an atmosphere kept under alkaline conditions with an atmospheric holding material, a β-alumina-based solid electrolytic procelain is produced by a method characterized as follows. The atmospheric holding material contains at least a sodium salt in an amount of 0.5-25 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. β-alumina-based powder constituting mainly the atmospheric holding material and is arranged through an unburned setter, having properties similar to those of the compact and unreactive with the compact in a noncontact state with the compact.
