Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a biaryl derivative useful as a medicine and an agrochemical and a liquid crystal material.
SOLUTION: An aromatic boronic acid of formula I [R1 is a halogen, H, a 1-12C alkyl, etc.; R3 and R4 are each H, methyl, ethyl, etc.; A1 is trans-1,4- cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, etc.; X1 to X4 are each R1, CN, NCS, F, etc.; Z1 is COO, CH2O, C≡C, etc.; (1) is 0-2], its anhydride or an aromatic boronic acid derivative is subjected to cross coupling with a halogenated aryl, a halogenated heteroaryl, a fluoroalkylsulfonic aryl or a fluoroalkylsulfonic acid heteroaryl represented by formula II [R2 is H, a 1-12C alkyl, an alkoxy, CN, etc.; Y is Cl, Br or toluenesulfonyloxy; A2 and A3 are each trans-1,4- cyclohexylene, etc.; Z2 is COO, OH2O, etc.; (m) and (n) are each 0-2] in the presence of a base and developed Raney nickel in a solvent to provide the objective compound of formula III.
