To efficiently obtain the subject compound by reaction between a specific biaryldicarboxylic acid dihalide and a specific oxoalkanediol.
This compound of formula III is obtained by reaction between a biaryldicarboxylic acid dihalide of formula I (ring Ar is a substituted benzene ring or naphthalene ring; X is a halogen) and an oxoalkanediol of formula II (Alk is an alkylene) or its dimer pref. at 30-100°C; wherein the reaction is pref. carried out in a solvent at 5-50 mL per g of the compound of formula I; the solvent to be used is pref. a (halogenated) aromatic hydrocarbon-based solvent (e.g. toluene), (halogenated) aliphatic hydrocarbon-based solvent (e.g. methylene chloride) or the like. Furthermore, the reaction is pref. carried out in the presence of an organic base (e.g. triethylamine), its amount being pref. 2-4 mol per mol of the compound of formula I.
