Abstract:
PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain the subject compound useful as an antioxidant, a deodorant, etc., in high yield by oxidizing a specific compound in the presence of a complex such as cobalt perchlorate.
CONSTITUTION: A compound expressed by formula I (R1 is 1-3C alkyl) is oxidized in the presence of a complex of cobalt perchlorate with α,α,α',α'- tetrakis-(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-2,6-pyridinedimethanol (used in an amount of preferably 0.001-1 equiv. based on the compound expressed by formula I) to afford the objective compound expressed by formula II.
