To provide an improved process for producing 1,7-dimercapto-3,5-dioxaheptane (DMDH) and oligomer mixtures thereof that avoid production safety, cost and environmental issues; and a method for preparing mercapto group-terminated liquid polysulfide polymers using the same.SOLUTION: A process for preparing DMDH and oligomer mixtures thereof comprises reacting a metal hydrosulfide with one or more organic dihalo compounds of Formula (III), where m is 1 or 2; n is an integer from 0 to 3; and X is a halogen.SELECTED DRAWING: None
