Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound having excellent economical efficiency, etc., in high purity and yield in the absence of a solvent and catalyst in a one- stage process, by reacting a melt of maleic anhydride with an aromatic diamine having a substituent group at the o-position in a specific proportion under specific reaction conditions. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic diamine, such as 3,3'-4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane or 4,6-dimethyl-m-phenylenediamine, having a substituent group at the o-position at 0.8-1.0 equivalent ratio of NH2 groups to acid anhydride rings is slowly added to a melt of maleic anhydride and reacted at 130-200 deg.C under ordinary pressure or reduced pressure of 760-200mmHg for 2-120min and then rapidly decompressed to <=100mmHg to remove the unreacted maleic anhydride. Thereby the aimed compound, having improved operability and curability, a high glass transition temperature, low thermal expansion and excellent heat resistance and economical efficiency and useful as molding materials, powder coatings, adhesives, etc., is obtained.
