Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially producing bistrifluoromethylbenzene from the corresponding xylene compound capable of being treated as a raw material liquid at ordinary temperature or at a relatively low temperature by simple production operations.
SOLUTION: This method for industrially producing bistrifluoromethylbenzene comprises a process for chlorinating a compound of the general formula [(m) is 1, 2 or 3] with chlorine to produce the corresponding trichloromethyltrifluoromethylbenzene and a process for fluorinating the obtained trichloromethyltrifluoromethylbenzene with hydrogen fluoride to produce the corresponding bistrifluoromethylbenzene.
