PURPOSE: To provide a briquette which exhibits excellent combustibility and ignitability and has sufficient crushing strength even when produced from low- grade coal without the need of any heating means, by molding under pressure a mixed ray material powder comprised of pulverized coal and, added thereto, wood flour, a sulfur fixing agent and a cement.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed raw material power is prepd. by mixing pulverized coal with wood flour, a sulfur fixing agent, such as lime, iron oxide or soda ash, and a cement. The powder is molded under pressure. According to this method, a briquette having sufficient crushing strength can be produced even from low-grade coal since the cement works as an auxiliary binders. Also, since the heat of hydration of the cement is utilized as a heat source for activating the wood binder, any other heat source or heating apparatus is not required for molding, so that the production cost can greatly be reduced. Moreover, as a result of the addition of the wood flour, the briquette has excellent combustibility and ignitability, and fuming during combustion can be alleviated. Further, the addition of the sulfur fixing agent enables the formation of a product from which the evolution of a hazardous sulfide, such as SOx, during combustion is limited.
