Abstract:
PURPOSE: To recover canthaxanthin useful as feed additive for fishery with accumulating in cell by culturing algae belonging to genus Bracteacoccus in a culturing solution containing low concentration of nitrogen below a specific value.
CONSTITUTION: Algae belonging to genus Bracteacoccus, preferably Bracteacoccus.minor is cultured in a culturing solution containing ≤1.5×10-3 Normal concentration of nitrogen and canthaxanthin is accumulated in cell in an amount of ≥0.01wt.% per unit weight of cell, then recovered. Fish meat or shell is colored to red by giving canthaxanthin to cultured fish or cultured lobster together with feed and commercial value is enhanced.
