To provide the method for directly producing a carbon steel strip having ≤10 mm thickness from molten steel by casting the molten steel between side surfaces of two horizontal-rotating rolls each inside of which is cooled and which are made of copper or copper alloy.
The chemical composition (wt.%) of the molten steel 4 is defined so that carbon is ≤0.5%, manganese is 0.2-2%, silicon is ≤2% silicon, the ratio of %Mn/%Si is 3-16, (aluminum + titanium + zirconium) as the arbitrary components is ≤0.10% and the balance iron with inevitable impurities. Further, the side surfaces 3, 3' of the rolls have 40-200 μm roughness Rz and 10-40 μm roughness Ra and as mutually adjacent dimples. The atmosphere surrounding meniscuses 8, 8' in the molten steel 4 existing between the rolls 1, 1' contains 40-100% nitrogen and the balance inert gas or mixed gas of inert gas indissolved into the molten steel 4.
