PURPOSE: To obtain a carboxylic acid ester, by esterfication of a carboxylic acid with an epoxide in the presence of a strongly basic anion-exchange resin containing acrylic group as a principal chain.
CONSTITUTION: A 3-6C unsaturated carboxylic acid and an epoxide (e.g. a 2-8C alkylene oxide) are subjected to esterification at 50-110°C in the presence of a strongly basic macroprous anion-exchange resin containing acrylic group as a principal chain in a rotational batch reactor or in a fixed or fluidized bed, thereby to give the objective compound. The carboxylic acid an the epoxide are used in a molar ratio of 1.2:1-20:1. the exchange volume of the anion- exchange resin is 1.5-4.4 meg/g (based on dry weight) and the resin crosslinked with 2-10% crosslinking monomer.
