Abstract:
To selectively obtain a carboxylic acid not followed by a problem such as corrosion of facilities, etc. without using a solution of strong acid.
At least one synthetic raw material selected from the group consisting of an alcohol, an olefin and a diene is reacted with carbon monoxide in the presence of a strongly acidic cation exchange resin. Preferably the synthetic raw material is a ≥4C alcohol or ≥4C olefin and the carboxylic acid is a tertiary carboxylic acid. Preferably the strongly acidic cation exchange resin is a perfluorosulfonic acid resin or a sulfonic functional group-containing ion exchange resin.
