To provide a method for producing a catalyst comprising noble metals deposited on a carbon-containing support material.
A noble metal catalyst containing one or more noble metals of platinum-group metals as catalytically active components and/or their compounds together with, if necessary, a promoting agent and/or a denaturing agent is produced on a carbon-containing support material. In the method, before deposition of the catalytically active noble metal components, the carbon- containing support material is treated with alkali metal and alkaline earth metal salts of organic and inorganic acids and further, if necessary, successively treated with the promoting agent and/or the denaturing agent. The obtained catalyst is used especially for producing substituted or unsubstituted cyclohexanone by hydrogenetion reaction of corresponding substituted phenol.
