PURPOSE: Optically active cephalosporin analogs or their salts are produced by use of the culture mixture of a specific microorganism or it processed product.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between a compound of formula II (R1 is residue of six-membered carbon cyclic group, five-membered heterocyclic group; X is H, hydroxyl, alkyl, carboxyl, amino) or its reactive derivative and another compound of formula III (R2 is H, alkyl; R3 is H, ester residue; the hydrogens in the 6 and 7 positions are in cis configuration) is conducted in the presence of a microorganism that belongs to Pseudomonas, Xanthomonas, and others and can produce optically active cephalosporine analogs of formula I (each R and X is the same as the above; the hydrogens in the 6 and 7 positions are in cis) from a compound of formula II or its reactive derivative and another compound of formula III, its culture mixture, or its processed product or the enzyme produced by the microorganism.
