Title:
PRODUCTION OF CHELATING RESIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60135420
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an easily regeneratable chelating resin having an exchange capacity and an excellent effect of scavenging metal ions, boron, and arsenic, by polycondensing a specified aromatic amine with a polyhydroxyalkylaldehyde in two stages.

CONSTITUTION: An aromatic amine of formula I or II (wherein R is H or a 1W 4C alkyl) is partially condensed with a polyhydroxyalkylaldehyde of formula III(wherein n is 2W6) in a molar ratio of 3:1W1:2 and 30W70°C for 3W30hr in the presence of an acid catalyst. While the reaction product mixture still retains flowability, an additional aldehyde is dissolved in the mixture in such an amount that the molar ratio of the total amount of the aldehyde to the amine is 1:1W5. The resulting mixture is dispersed in an organic solvent such as o-dichlorobenzene, and subjected to pearl polymerization at 70W120°C for 3W30hr in the presence of an acid catalyst such as boric acid until the reaction is completed.
