Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful for synthesis, etc., of pharmaceutically active substances in high optical yield by enantioselectively hydrogenating the corresponding derivative in the presence of an optically active ruthenium complex.
SOLUTION: When an optically active α-bromo- or α-chlorocarboxylic acid of formula I [X is bromine or chlorine; M is H, NR1+4 (R1 is H or a lower alkyl) or a cation of an alkaline (earth)metal; (n) is 0 or 1; R is H, a 1-20C alkyl, an isolated or protected CHO, etc.; * is center of chirality] or a slat thereof or an ester thereof is produced, α,β-unsaturated compound of formula II is enatioselectively hydrogenated in the presence of an optically active rethenium complex of diphosphine ligand, preferably, of atropisomerism, suitably, formulas III to V [Z is BF-4, ClO-4, B(phenyl)-4 or PF-6; Z1 is a halogen, Y-COO- (Y is a lower alkyl, etc.), etc.; X is benzene, hexamethylbenzene, etc.; (m) is 1 or 2; Z2 is a halogen, etc.; L is diphosphine ligand of atropisomerism].
