To provide a process for producing color filters having excellent heat resistance and chemical resistance, high sensitivity and a pattern profile by using a positive photosensitive coloring compsn.

This process for producing the color filters consists in applying the positive photosensitive coloring compsn. contg. (1) a resin insoluble in water and soluble in an aq. alkaline soln., (2) a compd. which generates an acid by irradiation with active rays or radiations, (3) a low-molecular acid decomposable dissolution prohibiting compd. of a mol.wt. of ≤3000 which has a group decomposable by the acid and is increased in the solubility in an alkaline developer by the effect of the acid and (4) coloring agents on a transparent substrate and subjecting the coating to exposure, post-exposure heating and developing to form image patterns, then incorporating a crosslinking agent into the image patterns and successively subjecting the coating to full-surface exposure and heating.
