To provide a process for producing a combined thin-film magnetic head which is capable of easily forming through-holes for extraction from a lead conductor layer of a read element and a back gap of a write magnetic pole of an inductive element in the same stage.
This process has a stage for forming the read element and the lead conductor layer connected to this read element via a lower insulating layer 11 on a lower shielding layer 10, a stage for forming an upper insulating layer on the formed read element and the lead conductor layer, a stage for forming an upper shielding layer 18 on the upper insulating layer, a stage for forming an insulating layer 20 for the magnetic pole gap of the inductive element on the upper shielding layer 18 and a stage for simultaneously removing the upper insulating layer and insulating layer for the magnetic pole gap in the positions respectively corresponding to the through-holes for extraction from the lead conductor layer lead conductor layer and the holes for the rear joint part of the write magnetic pole of the inductive element in order to form these through-holes and holes.
