Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a latex useful as a pigment which can give hiding power and gloss of white paper by polymerizing a monomer mixture comprising a conjugated diene monomer and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, etc., in the presence of a specified copolymer latex. CONSTITUTION:The purpose copolymer latex is obtained by polymerizing 50-2000 pts.wt. component C in the presence of 100 pts.wt. (in terms of solid matter) copolymer latex obtained by adding 5-30 pts.wt. component B to 1 pts.wt. (in terms of solid matter) component A and polymerizing component B, wherein component A is a latex comprising polymer particles having a toluene-insoluble content of 5wt.% or below and a mean diameter of 5000Angstrom or below, component B comprises 5-50wt.% crosslinking monomer, 5-50wt.% 2-12C alkyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or the like, 3-80wt.% vinyl cyanide compound and 0-85wt.% other monomers, and component comprises 10-50wt.% conjugated diene monomer or the like, 1-20wt.% ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and 40-89wt.% other monomers.
