Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a cycloolefin polymer in a very high efficiency by using a minute amount of a catalyst mainly consisting of a compound of a group 10 transition metal and a Lewis acid.
CONSTITUTION: A cycloolefin is polymerized by using a catalyst mainly consisting of a compound of a group 10 transition metal and a halogenated Lewis acid. The compound of a group 10 transition metal is particularly desirably a palladium compound. The halogenated Lewis acid is desirably a halide of a group 13 element or a compound containing a halogen atom and an organic group, more desirably ethylaluminum dichloride, ethylaluminum sesquichloride or boron trifluoride.
