Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject copolymer free from catalyst residue, having excellent transparency and heat-resistance and useful for optical material, etc., by polymerizing ethylene and a specific cycloolefin, etc., in the presence of a catalyst such as soluble vanadium compound and treating the polymer under specific condition.
CONSTITUTION: The objective copolymer is produced by copolymerizing (A) ethylene, (B) one or more kinds of cycloolefins of formula I (n and q are 0 or 1; m is ≥0; R1 to R18, Ra and Rb are H, halogen, hydrocarbon group, etc.) or formula II (p and q are ≥0; m and n are 0-2; R1 to R19 are H, halogen, hydrocarbon group, alkoxy, etc.) and (C) one or more kinds of ≥3C α-olefins in the presence of a catalyst composed of a soluble vanadium compound and an organic Al compound in a hydrocarbon solvent, adding an alcohol to the polymerization reaction solution to terminate the polymerization reaction and removing the catalyst by contacting the obtained copolymer solution with water containing an alcohol at a volume ratio (copolymer solution/alcohol-containing water) of 1/3 to 3/1 at 30-80°C.
