To obtain a prostaglandin(PG) by a method which allows to enlarge variation in α- and co-chains of PG skeleton i.e., the reaction of a specific methylcyclopentanone derivative with a specific compound, a specific acid anhydride, and so on.
This compound shown by formula III (e.g. 9-acetoxy-11α,15S- dihydroxy-17S) is obtained by the reaction of a methylcyclopentene derivative shown by formula I [R3 and R4 are each H or a protecting group for OH; R5 is a (substituted) alkyl] with a compound shown by formula II [R2 is H or an alkyl; X1 is a halogen or M-Y (M is a divalent metal; Y is a halogen)] in an inert solvent at -70 to 20°C. followed by the reaction with an acid anhydride shown by the formula (R1)2O (R1 is an alkanoyl) or an acid halide shown by the formula R1X2 (X2 is a halogen) at -78 to 40°C.
