PURPOSE: To produce the copper alloy coated steel wire suitable for high speed railway trolley wire, etc., at a low cost.
CONSTITUTION: The production device of copper or copper alloy coated steel wire is provided with a means to continuously or intermittently supply a material wire 4 from upper side into a crucible 1, a means to heat/melt the material wire 4 in the crucible 1, a water cooled mold 3 having an inlet guide part 8 positioned under the crucible 1, directly connected to the crucible 1, making a steel wire 17 pass through horizontally and a means to intermittently draw a copper or copper alloy coated wire formed in the water cooled mold 3 in the horizontal direction. A material is supplied by a wire rod 4, the crucible 1 is directly connected to the water cooled mold 3, supplying of the steel wire 17 passing through the water cooled mold 3 and pulling out of the copper or copper coated wire 15 are made linear, unattended operation is made possible and the quality is excellent.
