Abstract:
PURPOSE: To readily obtain a compound useful as a vinyl based monomer with good storage stability, by esterifying a hydroxydicyclopentadiene with maleic acid or fumaric acid in the presence of a ketoxime.
CONSTITUTION: 1.5W3mol tricyclo[5.2.1.021]3-decen-8(or 9)ol (common name; hydroxydicyclopentadiene) is esterified with 1mol maleic acid (anhydride) and/or fumaric acid in the presence of a ketoxime, e.g. methyl ethyl ketoxime, to afford the aimed substance. The reaction is carried out using the ketoxime in an amount of 0.01W1.0wt% based on the total weight of the reaction system. Vinyl based monomers are useful in producing resins for coating materials, adhesives, molding, etc.
