Title:
PRODUCTION OF DIHYDROXYBENZENE AND DIISOPROPYLBENZENE DICARBINOL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3492052
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dihydroxybenzene(DHB) and diisopropylbenzene dicarbinol (DCA) simultaneously by using a diisopropylbenzene (DIPB) as feedstock and by making use of a diisopropylbenzene hydroxyhydroperoxide (CHPO) as an intermediate byproduct.
SOLUTION: The DHB and DCA are obtained simultaneously through the following processes: oxidation process: DIPB is subjected to air oxidation to produce a liquor containing both the corresponding diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide (DHPO) and CHPO; 2nd process: the liquor is subjected to extraction with an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution followed by an organic solvent to separate DHPO and CHPO, respectively; decomposition process: the DHPO is decomposed in the presence of an acid catalyst into DHB; and reduction process: the CHPO is reduced into DCA.
