To provide a method for producing dimethyl ether using CO and H2 as the main feedstocks, designed to quickly and easily adjust the H2/CO molar concentration ratio for the recycled gas consisting mainly of both unreacted CO and H2 to a specified value.
First, steam 14' is brought into contact with a recycled gas 7b' to adjust the H2/CO molar concentration ratio for the recycled gas to a specified value by shift reaction. The resultant recycled gas 11' is then mixed with a makeup gas 1' so as to adjust the H2/CO molar concentration ratio for the gas 2' after mixed to a value close to 1. Thus, the H2/CO molar concentration ratio for the gas for synthesizing dimethyl ether can be controlled independently of fluctuations in the extent of advancement of dimethyl ether synthetic reaction and the like, thus enabling stable operation of the stock feed system.
