PURPOSE: To produce an electrical thick steel plate having excellent magnetic characteristics without requiring blooming, rolling, etc. by casting longitudinally short the melt of a pure iron for a magnetic material in such a manner that the ratio of the height in the casting direction and the short side of the horizontal section attains a specific value or below.
CONSTITUTION: The melt 4 of the pure iron for the magnetic material having the compsn. consisting, by weight %, of <0.05% C, < 0.50% Si, <0.15% Mn, < 0.015% P, <0.015% S, <0.07% Cu, <0.07% Ni, <0.07% Cr, <0.05% Al, <0.005% N and the balance Fe is cast into a longitudinally short casting mold 1 on a mold stool 2. A heat insulating material 3 is adhered to the inside surface of the mold 1 to be used and a heat insulating material 5 is sprayed onto the surface of the cast metal 4 to insulate the heat of the casting. The molten metal is cast to have such a size of the casting that the ratio H/D between the eight H in the casting direction R in the mold 1 and the short side D of the horizontal section attains ≤i. The casting is subjected, if necessary, to a soaking treatment to eliminate the C segregated in the head part of the ingot. The longitudinally short steel plate having the excellent magnetic characteristids as cast is thus produced.
