Abstract:
PURPOSE: To industrially advantageously obtain an epoxy compound having herbicidal activity and useful as herbicide, etc., for crop land by culturing a microorganism belonging to the genus Pestalotia, the genus pestalotiopsis, etc., and capable of producing a specific epoxy compound and then collecting the product.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism [Pestalotia longiseta PL8501 strain (IFO32172), etc.] belonging to the genus Pestalotia or the genus pestalotiopsis and capable of producing an epoxy compound expressed by the formula (R is a 1-5C substituted alkyl or substituted alkynyl) is inoculated into a medium and subjected to stationary culture at 28°C for 5 day under darkness and a microbial cell and other solid material are filtered from the cultured mixture and ethyl acetate is added to the resultant cultured filtrate to extract the cultured product. The extracted solution is concentrated under reduced pressure to afford an extract, which is then purified by high-performance liquid chromatography, etc., to provide the objective epoxy compound expressed by the formula, having excellent herbicidal activity against weeds such as Polygounm cuspidatum and Erigeron annuus and useful as a herbicide for crop land, etc.
