PURPOSE: To produce fine superconducting oxide powder having fine grain size and superior uniformity by hydrolyzing a soln. contg. alkoxides of a rare earth element, an alkaline earth metal and copper, crushing the resulting hydrolyzate in a wet state and drying the crushed product.
CONSTITUTION: Prescribed amts. of an alkoxide of a rare earth element such as yttrium butoxide, an alkoxide of an alkaline earth metal such as barium ethoxyethoxide and an alkoxide of copper such as copper ethoxyetholide are dissolved in a solvent, preferably 2-butanol to prepare a soln., an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide is preferably added to the soln. and this soln. is hydrolyzed. The resulting hydrolyzate is separated by centrifugal separation or other method, a solvent such as 2-butanol is added to the hydrolyzate in a wet state and this hydrolyzate is crushed with a ball mill, etc. The crushed product is recovered, vacuum-dried and calcined and this operation is repeated to obtain fine superconducting oxide powder.
