To obtain a fluorinated emulsion polymer by effecting emulsion polymerization in a reaction system containing water, a surfactant, a mixture containing a fluoro monomer, a highly water-soluble nonfluoro monomer and optionally a lowly water-soluble nonfluoro monomer and a macromolecular organic compound having hydrophobic cavities.
A reaction mixture is prepared which contains water, a surfactant, a mixture containing 1-99 at least one fluoro monomer, 1-10 wt.% at least one highly water-soluble nonfluoro monomer and 0-98 wt.% at least one lowly water-soluble nonfluoro monomer and a macromolecuar compound having hydrophobic cavities. Next, this reaction mixture is subjected to emulsion polymerization. The initiator desirably used is exemplified by hydrogen peroxide. The macromolecular organic compound is exemplified by cyclodextrin, a cyclodextrin derivative, cycloinulohexose or calixarene.
