To obtain a new fluorine-containing prostaglandin derivative convertible into a physiologically active 15-deoxy-15-fluoroprostaglandin F derivative.
This fluorine-containing prostaglandin derivative is expressed by the formula I [A is ethylene, vinylene, ethynylene, OCH2 or SCH2; R1 is an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkynyl, a cycloalkyl, an aralkyl or an aryloxyalkyl; R2 and R3 are each H) or an OH-protecting group (at least one of R2 and R3 is not H); X is CH2, O or S; Z is OR4, NHCOR5, NHSO2R6 or SR7 (R4 to R7 are each H, an alkyl, etc.)], e.g. (15RS)-15-deoxy-15-fluoro-16-[3-(methyl) phenyl]-9-acetyl-11-(2-tetrahydropyranyl)-17,18, 19, 20-tetranorprostaglandin F2 αmethyl ester. The compound of the formula I can be produced by fluorinating a prostaglandin compound of the formula II.
