To produce a glassine paper having excellent disintegrability usable as a raw material for regenerated paper and having light transmissibility without trouble in detection of a label position in a labeler provided with a transmitting position detector in the case of using as base paper for release paper.

This glassine paper is obtained by making paper from a chemical pulp having 130-210ml CSF freeness as a main raw material, subjecting its one face to on-machine coating using a coating solution containing a polyvinyl alcoholic resin having 1,500-2,700 polymerization degree and 80-90mol% saponification degree and finishing the resultant raw paper by compression treatment.
