Title:
PRODUCTION OF GRAIN DISPERSION-STRENGTHENED ALLOY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0219431
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily produce a grain dispersion-strengthened alloy in which grains are uniformly dispersed by spraying a liquid having a boiling point lower than the temp. of molten metal onto this molten metal and simultaneously introducing grains to be a dispersed phase along the above-mentioned sprayed liquid.

CONSTITUTION: A molten metal 4 is prepared by melting a matrix metal (e.g., Al alloy) in a crucible 3 held in a heating furnace 2 equipped with heating units 1. While agitating this molten metal 4 by means of an agitation blade 6 connected to an agitating device 5, water 9 is sprayed on the surface of the molten metal 4 from a spray gun 10 at ≥about 1m/sec spray velocity. Simultaneously, metal grains 8 (e.g., of SiC) of about 0.1-50μ grain size to be a dispersed phase are introduced from a feeding device 7 along the sprayed liquid mentioned above. At this time, it is desirable to regulate the amount of the metal grains to be introduced to about 4-50wt.%. By this method, the metal grains 8 are uniformly dispersed into the molten metal 4, and the strengthened alloy in which grains are uniformly dispersed can be obtained.
