PURPOSE: To easily produce hard charcoal and stock charcoal most suitable as a raw material for activated carbon at a low cost, by carbonizing stalks of a specific bamboo grass or bamboo in a state of specific water-content in a carbonization oven and spontaneously extinguishing the carbonized product in the oven.
CONSTITUTION: Stalks of bamboo grass such as Sasa albo-marginata, Sasa nipponica, Pleuoblastus chino, etc., or bamboo such as Phyllostachys pubescens, Phyllostachys bambusoides, Phyllostachys nigra, etc., of biennial or longer life are controlled to a water-content of ≥15% e.g. by storing in a highly humid storehouse or immersing in water. The moisture-controlled stalks are carbonized in an oven and spontaneously extinguished in the oven to obtain the objective hard charcoal.
