Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject solid resin easily in good reproducibility and productivity within a short time by suspension-polymerizing a monomer mixture containing a specified amount of an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid in the presence of a specified amount of PVA as a dispersion medium.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer mixture comprising 3-60 pts.wt. α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and 97-40 pts.wt. (the total being 100 pts.wt.) at least one member selected from an alkyl (meth)acrylate with a 1-18C alkyl group and another comonomer is suspension-polymerized in the presence of PVA as a dispersion medium in an amount to give a surface tension of the aqueous medium of 60dyn/cm or below and an interfacial tension between the monomer mixture and the aqueous medium of 1.6-6.0dyn/cm. According to this process, the objective solid high-acid-value acrylic resin can easily be produced in good productivity within a short time.
