PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer excellent in breaking property, tear property and resilience, by polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a specified Ni catalyst while removing the heat by evaporation, liquefaction by cooling, and recirculation of monomer.
CONSTITUTION: In polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a Ni catalyst comprising (A) a compound selected from the group consisting of an organic carboxylic acid salt of Ni and an organic complex compound of Ni (e.g., nickel naphthenate), (B) a compound selected from the group consisting of boron fluoride and its complex compound (e.g., boron fluoride/diethyl ether complex compound) and (C) a compound selected from the group consisting of organometallic compounds containing an alkali metal or a Group II or III metal (e.g., triethyl-aluminum); the polymerizatin of 1,3-butadiene is carried out while the heat is being removed by evaporation, liquefaction by cooling, and recirculation of monomer. It is possible to obtain a high-cis-1,4-polybutadiene excellent in breaking property, tear property and resilience.
