Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-purity soluble aniline based conductive polymer which reveals high conductivity and is excellent in solubility in water and organic solvents, and also excellent in applicability and film strength, by polymerizing a specified aniline substituted by acidic groups, or its salt in the presence of an oxidizing agent in a solution containing a basic compound.
SOLUTION: At least one compound selected from among acidic group- substituted anilines, represented by formula 1 [wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are each H, a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy, an acidic group, hydroxyl, etc., provided that at least one of them is an acidic group (wherein the acidic group designates a sulfo or carboxyl group)], and alkali (alkaline earth) metal salts, etc., thereof is polymerized in a mixture of an aqueous solution containing a basic compound with a water-soluble organic solvent by using an oxidizing agent, thus giving an objective polymer having mainly structural units of formula 2 (wherein R21, R22, R23 and R24 are the same as R1 to R5 in formula 1), with an Mw of at least 3,000 and a residual monomer content of at most 3wt.%.
