Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of pickup caused by the formation of silica by suppressing the formation of silica in a siliconizing zone.
SOLUTION: A steel sheet contg. <4wt.% Si is subjected to siliconizing treatment in a nonoxidizing gaseous atmosphere contg. SiCl4 in a siliconizing zone and is next subjected to diffusion soaking treatment of Si in a diffusion soaking zone to continuously produce a high silicon steel sheet. The SiCl4 concn. [SiCl4] (vol%) in the atmosphere in the siliconizing zone is regulated in accordance with the oxygen equivalent [O] (ppm) in the atmosphere in the siliconizing zone so as to satisfy the inequality of 0.10[O]-2.9≤[SiCl4] (where [O]=[H2O]+2[O2], [H2O]: the concn. of water vapor in the atmosphere in the furnace, and [O2]: the concn. of oxygen in the atmosphere in the furnace, and the greater part of water and oxygen contained in the atmosphere in the siliconizing zone are brought into reaction with SiCl4 in the vapor phases to prevent the formation of silica on the surface of the steel sheet.
