Abstract:

PURPOSE: To shorten infusibilizing process, to uniformly infusibilize precursor yarn and to obtain the title yarn having excellent uniformity by infusibilizing precursor yarn in an inert gas atmosphere by irradiation of ionizing radiation and burning the yarn in another inert gas.

CONSTITUTION: Precursor yarn obtained by spinning an organosilicone-based polymer compound is infusibilized uniformly in the interior of yarn in pure oxygen, in air or in an atmosphere of an inert gas such as helium gas or hydrogen gas blended with 0.05-30wt.% oxygen by using gamma rays at 0.1-100Gy/s dose rate and 104-107 Gy irradiation dose. Then the yarn is burnt in an inert gas atmosphere such as nitrogen gas at 800-1,500°C to give the objective yarn. The surface layer in thickness from 0.1μm to the center of yarn may be selectively infusibilized.
