PURPOSE: To form an org. thin film capable of undergoing the control of three- dimensional arrangement of the entire film by spreading a monomolecular film on the surface of a liq., impressing a magnetic field to the film in a certain direction for a certain time and transferring the film to the surface of a solid substrate.
CONSTITUTION: An intense magnetic field is impressed to a monomolecular film on the surface of water in a direction in which the film is oriented, e.g. (a-b) direction (direction perpendicular to the film) or (c-d) direction (intrasurface direction of the film). The orientation of film forming molecules 2 or a substance 4 adsorbed from a small phase can be controlled. The pref. intensity of the magnetic field is about ≥1000G and the pref. impressing time is about ≥10sec. This method is applicable to a compd. capable of forming a monomolecular film or a thin film analogous to the monomolecular film on the surface of a liq. A concrete example of the compd. is long chain fatty acid such as myristic acid or palmitic acid or protein such as insulin or rhodopsin.
