Abstract:

To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for medicines in high yield and purity by cyclizing an amidopyridine derivative under heating within a specific range of temperatures.

This compound of formula II is obtained by cyclizing a compound of formula I [R1 is H or a halogen; R2 is H or methyl; R3 is a cycloalkyl, lower alkyl, etc.; R4 is cyano, COOR5 (R5 is a lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, etc.), etc.] under heating at 80-260°C in the presence of an organic acid salt such as sodium acetate or an amine such as ethylamine at 0.1-20 molar times the compound of formula I in a solvent such as CH3OH at 0.5-100wt. times the compound of formula I.
