PURPOSE: To produce the subject compound for a raw material of a photographic coupler by reacting a nitrile with an alcohol in the presence of a base to synthesize an imidic acid ester and subsequently reacting an aminopyrazole and a hydroxylamine in order therewith.
CONSTITUTION: A nitrile represented by formula R3CN (R3 is an aryl, a heterocycle or a substituted alkyl) is reacted with an alcohol expressed by formula R4OH (R4 is an alkyl) in the presence of a base to synthesize an imidic acid ester shown by formula I. The base is used in an amount of 0.5 to 3.0 based on the nitrile. Without isolation of the resultant imidic acid ester, this imidic acid ester is then reacted with an aminopyrazole (salt) represented by formula II (R1 and R3 are each H or a substituent group) to be converted to an N-pyrazolylamidine expressed by formula III and a hydroxylamine (salt) is subsequently reacted therewith, thus producing the objective N- pyrazolylamidoxime compound shown by formula IV and useful, e.g. as an intermediate for synthesis of, e.g. a coupler for a silver halide type color photograph.
