PURPOSE: To obtain a method for producing an imine compound useful as a chemical raw material from an oxo compound and ammonia.

CONSTITUTION: This method for producing an imine compound from an oxo compound and ammonia is characterized by using active carbon as a catalyst in the presence of an organic solvent. The active carbon used as the catalyst is capable of manifesting ultrahigh activity in producing the imine compound from the oxo compound under conditions of using a solvent and a low molar ratio of the ammonia to the oxo compound which is a raw material, i.e., a low pressure and simultaneously maintaining high selectivity. These features are extremely advantageous in the industrial process.
