PURPOSE: To provide a new compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for an antibacterial substance 3,4'-dideoxymycaminosyl tylonolide and effective in producing the antibacterial substance having excellent phylactic action in high efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula [A is (protected) carbonyl; B is (protected) aldehyde; W is H or OCOCH3; Y is OH, halogen, etc.; R4 is (protected) OH; R2 is lower alkanoyl provided that a part of R2 is double bond when W is H and is single bond when W is OCOCH3], e.g. 2',3,4'-tri-O- acetyldesmycosin-9,20-bis(ethyleneacetal). The compound can be produced e.g. by treating 3-O-acetyltylosine with an acid anhydride, treating the acylated product with a dehydration agent and an alcohol compound in an inert solvent in the presence of an acid catalyst at 5-80°C and treating the product with a base in an inert solvent.
