Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled carbon material having low electrical resistance, easy cutting and processing and uniform fine texture, by adding readily graphitizable carbon fine powder to pitch containing no quinoline-insoluble content, carbonizing the blend to give coke, grinding the coke, molding and calcining.

CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. pitch containing no quinoline-insoluble content is blended with 10W70pts.wt. readily graphitizable carbon powder (e.g., needle coke) having ≤5μm average particle diameter, kneaded at ≤softening point of the pitch and then carbonized at ≤normal pressure at ≤550°C to give coke. Then, the coke is ground into ≤10 meshes to give fine powder and 100pts.wt. of the fine powder is optionally blended with 60W120pts.wt. binder pitch, molded, calcined by a conventional procedure and carbonized or graphitized.
