Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a process for producing L-(-)-carnitine from crotonobetaine using a microorganism catalyzing the stereospecific hydration of crotonobetaine to L-(-)-carnitine.
CONSTITUTION: L-(-)-Carnitine is produced via the stereospecific hydration of crotonobetaine by enzymes produced by four kinds of new Proteus mirabilis strains NRRLB-18480, NRRLB18481, NRRLB-18482 and NRRLB-18483.
