Title:
PRODUCTION OF L-RIBOSE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3932609
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain L-ribose useful as an intermediate for nucleic acid-based antiviral medicines, etc., in a high conversion and in a high yield in a state low in the by-production of impurities by epimerizing L-arabinose in the presence of the compound of a metal such as a nickel compound and a diamine compound.
SOLUTION: This method for producing L-ribose comprises epimerizing L-arabinose in the presence of (A) the compound of a metal such as those of cobalt, strontium, calcium or nickel, e.g. nickel chloride hexahydrate preferably in an amount of 1.5-10 moles per mole of the L-arabinose and (B) a diamine compound such as a diamine compound of the formula (R1-R4 are each H, a 1-10C akyl, a 3-10C cycloalkyl, a 6-16C aryl). The L-ribose is preferably produced by adding (C) a multidentate compound such as oxalic acid, anthranilic acid, dimethylglyoxime and oxide and subsequently epimerizing the L-arabinose.
