Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a lightweight air-permeable board, having a strength and capillarylike flow holes for flowing air therethrough and excellent in water absorbing and heat insulating performances by press forming a composition comprising prescribed amounts of a specific ceramic fine hollow grains, specified rubble grains, a specific natural mineral and water and then baking the resultant formed compact.
SOLUTION: A composition comprising 100 pts.wt. ceramic fine hollow grains having ≥600kgf/cm2 compressive strength, 0.3-0.5g/cm3 bulk specific gravity and ≥1,500°C melting point (e.g. an expanded and produced composition comprising silica, alumina, etc.), 50-200 pts.wt natural rubble grains (pulverized granite and andesite), 50-200 pts.wt. natural mineral containing a flux (e.g. a mixture containing a feldspar and borax added to a ball clay) and 20-150 pts.wt. water is press formed and the formed compact is then baked at 700-1,300°C.
